About the Author
Michael Beloved (Madhvacharya das) took his current body in 1951 in Guyana. In 1965, while living in Trinidad, he instinctively began doing yoga postures and trying to make sense of the supernatural side of life. Later on, in 1970, in the Philippines, he approached a Martial Arts Master named Mr. Arthur Beverford, explaining to the teacher that he was seeking a yoga instructor. Mr. Beverford identified himself as an advanced disciple of Sri Rishi Singh Gherwal, an ashtanga yoga master. Mr. Beverford taught the traditional ashtanga yoga with stress on postures, attentive breathing and brow chakra centering meditation. In 1972, Michael entered the Denver Colorado Ashram of Kundalini Yoga Master Sri Harbhajan Singh. There he took instruction in Bhastrika Pranayama and its application to yoga postures. He was supervised mostly by Yogi Bhajan's disciple named Prem Kaur. In 1979 Michael formally entered the disciplic succession of the Brahma-Madhva Gaudiya Sampradaya through Swami Kirtanananda, who was a prominent sannyasi disciple of the Great Vaishnava Authority Sri Swami Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada, the exponent of devotion to Sri Krishna. Apart from this, Michael took instructions from proficient gurus on the astral planes. For producing this publication, Michael studied the psychic side of human existence and took guidance from reliable mystics and spiritual manuals which describe the course of reincarnation.

"Sex You" is at its core a yogic book, a mystic book derived from knowledge obtained through the power of yoga.

It cannot be an invention. Who can invent such a tale? Who could weave such an intricate interaction, not to mention such a displeasing one to those who place the value of sex on the altar of the god of pleasure?

For, aren't we told by medical authorities and "sex experts" that continuing making love beyond progeny with our partners and into old age is healthy for the body, prevent diseases, and other similar panacea? Wait, aren't these same medical authorities those who mostly promote a "balanced diet" when dealing with illnesses like cancer, which allow sugar, meat, and other polluting aliments? No surprise here.

Of the amazing details about the mystic intricacies of sex in all available particulars, including the responsibilities derived from engaging in it, and the primary role of ancestors, the other reviewers have already spoken, but that 2 important tenets of Hinduism (or Sanatana Dharma, the eternal religion), must be understood for a proper digestion of the material offered, should be stressed now, being these 2 tenets the following: a) Reincarnation or transmigration of souls b) The existence of a hereafter where these disembodied spirits interact, push and shove, wait to re-enter the physical realm, this locations known as the astral worlds.

Finally, the most important value that this book has, is that it fills a void left by many a scripture of Hinduism and many commentaries on these scriptures, some by famous names, in that it explains the dynamics of reincarnation or rebirth in precise details. No other book in recent memory does that, please keep this in mind. Can these psychic processes be "proven"? Of course not, the scientists will cry! Of course not, we say, from a phenomenal point of view. But what about from a noumenal one? For we say that to ascribe lack of scientific approach to the science of yoga, from which these insights were derived, is the epitome of ignorance, for this knowledge comes from the best part of 40 years of psychic research where the author have alchemized their veracity into the crucible of his psyche and beyond. This is the same approach taken by the ancient Rishis of India. When the spermatozoon enters the egg, and life is "produced"...isn't it by magic? Let the scientists explain that.

Interesting, Profound and Intriguing

I must say that this book is a way-out book. It depicts sex as an act between a man and a woman mainly for spirits of the astral world (disembodied souls) to inhabit a woman's body and be born a human. The book is incredibly interesting but is not prefaced by anthing that can substatiate this theory of reincarnation other tha the author's claim that he got the information from the psychic world.

One must read this book with an open mind and simply enjoy the musings of the author as one would read an interesting book of fiction. How Michael spins the tale of souls "waiting in the wing" to be guided by a special deity is indeed intriguing to say the least. The idea that sexual urges and emotions of humans are created by those disembodied souls is truly original. The author covers how lust changes as we age, how drugs affect our ability to have sex, the role of the semen in the man and the egg in the woman and what happens to the disembodied souls during masturbation and homosexual acts.

There are many illustrations accompanying the author's discussions on masturbation, mystic sex, sextual intercourse and anatomy. Even if you know, or think you know, a lot about the conventional sexual habits of humans you will be educated in the mystic realm of human sexual behaviors. I would have to give this book five stars for originality, imagination, writing style and graphics and four stars for the intertainment value. There could be a section explaining how the author arrived at his ideas for this book. This would make it even more interesting.

About the Author
Gerard Whelan was born in Enniscorthy, County Wexford, and has lived and worked in several European countries. After some time living in Dublin, he has returned to live in his native Wexford. He is the author of many books for children and a multiple award-winner. His first novel, The Guns of Easter, won the Eilis Dillon Memorial Award for first-time writers. Dream Invader later won the Bisto Book of the Year Award. He has also been shortlisted for the Reading Association of Ireland awards. Gerard is also the author of A Winter of Spies and Out of Nowhere.

Brilliant Irish historical novel

This is an adventure story located in the turmoil of Dublin during the 1916 rebellion. As well as being a gripping adventure, it's a great introduction to modern Irish history.
I've recommended it to older friends as well as younger ones and most of them have read it at one sitting.
The hero of the novel spends Easter week dodging the firefights and explosions which are racking Irelands capital.
Through his travels the book introduces us to a varied cast of characters on both sides of the Irish struggle. As well as the British soldiers there are the various Irish groups that came together to oppose them: the working men of the Citizens army, the poets and writers of the Irish volunteers and the ordinary citizens of Dublin.
The young boys life is often in danger, but through his eyes we are privileged to see the sacrifice and determination which is bringing Ireland it's freedom.
While the hero of the novel is dodging the raking fire of machine guns and the heavy thud of Mauser bullets we're given a fascinating picture of Dublin and it's inhabitants.
One of the things I most enjoyed about this book was it's attention to detail and it's great period accuracy. But after reading it I also understood more fully the political events that are happening in Ireland now.

I read this with my 11 year old. The story is written from a young boys perspective of the Easter Rising. I would recommend this book for anyone who has a preteen curious about Ireland's revolution.

Very exciting and a mixture of sad and hopeful

I read this book after Gerard Whelan came to our school and explained why he wrote it. He said that a lot of the problems in Ireland today are caused by people getting upset about what they think happened in history and he wanted to find out what really happened. This is a really exciting story about children's adventures during the Easter Rising and at the end you realise it isn't about baddies and goodies but about real mixed up people. I am 13 and I think anyone who enjoys adventure stories would enjoy this one.

I had to purchase my book from the campus book store for the original price $136.00 when I already paid Wiggles book on line $72.00. I would like a refund. I ordered this book 1/24/2009 and it is now 3/4/2009. I do not recommend ordering from them.

About the Author

Dr. Jonathan Parker is Professor of Society and Social Welfare and Director of the Centre for Social Work, Sociology and Social Policy at Bournemouth University. He is Visiting Professor at the Tasik Chini Research Centre Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Sains Malaysia and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. He was one of the founders and director of the Family Assessment and Support Unit, a placement agency attached to the University of Hull, and Head of Department of Social Work.  He was Chair of the Association of Teachers in Social Work Education until 2005, Vice Chair of the UK higher education representative body, the Joint University Council for Social Work Education from 2005- 2010, and is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, Fellow of the Joint University Council, and Fellow of the Royal Anthropological Institute. Jonathan has published widely on disadvantage, marginalization and violence, Southeast Asia, religion, social work education, and theory for practice. He is editor-in-chief of the Journal of Practice Teaching & Learning; joint editor-in-chief of Social Policy & Social Work in Transition, and series editor of the highly successful SAGE series, Transforming Social Work Practice.

Clear and concise primer for IR/FPA

This is a very clear, concise, and useful starting book for learning about foreign policy analysis.

I would definitely recommend this to people just starting out an IR/FPA course. Also check out Stephen Van Evera's "Guide to methods for students of political science", the first chapter of which can be found online.

I actually used this as a starting point for holding a course on foreign policy analysis, it goes over all the basics and the chapters are clearly headed. Despite being a few years old this is clearly still relevant today.

Another reviewer here calls it "incomprehensible page fodder" which I'd have to take issue with. Anybody with a high/secondary school grasp of the English language should have no difficulty with the book. There were a few latin phrases, but they were either so commonplace in English use that it didn't matter, or it was clear what was meant by the context. I can only imagine that this other reviewer had to buy this book for a subject requirement, and neither liked the course, the teacher, or the subject itself! If you are interested in foreign policy or international relations, this is a great primer like I said. A parent bought it for me whilst I was at university and it served me well right through to my masters.

Something new, something old

I've always loved the original USPC manual that I owned (still own), and while I really do think it was high time that the manual be updated, I'm a bit disappointed that the Standards of Proficiency weren't included. I can understand WHY they weren't, but I'm going to miss being able to pull out the D-Level Manual and look at the requirements while IN the section being examined; it was super helpful for myself at the D-Level, and I'd hoped that the new manual would be the same for my younger Pony Clubbers. Ach, well!

I'd also like to caution people who want to use this manual as a guide to learn to ride -- Pony Club comes from the English hunt tradition, which was very much about forward seat and getting over fences. It's not the best way to teach a child to ride, and it's certainly not something you should use as any sort of manual to train a horse. (I would recommend classical texts, but that's my preference.) However, like my boss is always telling me, Pony Club is the gold standard in horse management (with few exceptions,) and the manual is worth buying for the horse management section alone!

Not just for kids

I consider this a "must have" book for all new horse owners. If every owner knew what was in this book, there would be a lot more happy horses. The most comprehensive book I've read to get you started with horses, For less than the price of one riding lesson, you will have a huge amount of information at your fingertips. Good for Adult Beginners too

The trainers at my barn recommend this series for the adult beginners too (like me). I have found this and the 'Intermediate' book highly readable, straightforawrd and helpful. They are highly instructional and cover aspects of riding, groundwork, horsecare, and tack. They are a great supplement to instruction.
