Chin’s writings have also been anthologized widely, notably in The Outlaw Bible of American Poetry (Thunder's Mouth Press), American Poetry: The Next Generation (Carnegie Mellon University Press), The World In Us: Lesbian and Gay Poetry of the Next Wave (St. Martin's Press), and Chick For A Day (Simon & Schuster). These are poems that touch me deeply -- there's one in here that makes me cry every time: it's these lines

In this dream of the father that lasted forever,

my dad forgave me, and this time, I learned to forgive myself.

My rage then ceased to need a name.

A dream only becomes one

when you wake up.

Diamond Dust is full of treasures of short stories!

If you don't know Anita Desai, the Indian-German writer and author, you should get to know her. She might be the next Nobel Prize winner in literature. This compilation of short stories was picked up by me at a drugstore for only a dollar. The short stories include in this selection are Royalty, Winterscape about an Canadian Indian man and his unusual parentage, Diamond Dust which is truly a tragedy about a beloved animal, Underground about a British couple traveling abroad, The Man Who Saw Himself Drown is an unusual but entertaining story, The Artist's Life, Five Hours to Simla or Faisla, Tepozlan Tomorrow, and The Rooftop Dwellers. Desai's writing style is packed with details and information about the characters, the setting, and the story involved. Desai's writing style is easy to read but you have to read closely to really appreciate her style and language use. I loved Winterscape the best so far, broke my heart in Diamond Dust, was amused by a man who saw himself drown and lived to tell about it, and I'm working through the rest but I bet she doesn't disappoint her readers.

About the Author

Dr. Michael McGrath is an established city professional, with over 15 years of experience working for some of the world's leading banks. He is currently a Head of Function for ADM Operations at Lloyds Banking Group. He is a former regional Chief Technical Officer at Merrill Lynch and Project Delivery Director at Bankers Trust and Deutsche Bank. He was a founder of Hibernia Consulting, a project delivery and risk management consulting firm serving major investment banking clients.
Michael has spent his professional life implementing complex change, in particular managing Mergers and Acquisitions from the announcement of the deal through to post-merger integration. M&A deals he has worked on include Lloyds TSB Group, the Deutsche Bank acquisition of Bankers Trust (then the largest banking acquisition ever made), the Bankers Trust acquisition of NatWest Markets (then the largest banking acquisition in the UK) and IBM's acquisition of Lotus Development.
Michael holds an MBA from the Smurfit School of Business; his MBA thesis won the Institute of Accountants in Ireland gold medal for research in 1996. His doctoral research examines risk behaviour in unfamiliar problem domains and he is probably the only person in the United Kingdom to hold a doctorate in banking M&A risk management.

A Must-Read!!

LIFE-CHANGING. Jesus has taken the shame and weight off of me (or should I say I finally let him). I can feel it. Yes, I cried through several of the pages, having to stop and really process my life - how and why certain things have caused me to be a people-pleaser, a perfectionist, a control freak, and pretty dang good at putting up walls and keeping people at a go-go-gadget type of arm’s length away. But the thing I realized most is that I have let shame get in the way of me and Jesus. I have been delivered - he did that for me on the cross - but I haven’t moved into the freedom that was given to me that day.

"Jesus had set me free from shame, but I had to choose to stand up and walk out of my unlocked prison cell, drop off my unshackled chains, and step into the future shame-free (p. 64)."

I've felt capped in my walk with Christ, feeling as if I'm doing well but not living to the fullest (anyone know what I mean?). It's because I haven’t been able to completely accept his love because I know my flaws extremely well. I couldn't wrap my mind around how someone would love me knowing those things? I truly hadn’t given over every “room” of my heart to him.

This book did that for me. The Holy Spirit worked through the typing on the pages, from the heart of Christine Caine. My past isn’t a weight on me unless I allow it to be. I have to choose to believe in His love for me. His power is made perfect in my weakness. He is the Redeemer and satan wants me to stay locked in the darkness of shame so I can’t live into my fullest potential. Thank the Lord (literally) that I finally picked up this book!

We live in a shame driven society but that shouldn't be the way we live our lives. As Christine says, “The world says: ‘Shame on you,’ I declare: ‘Shame off you!’” We can all live in the freedom (not solely the deliverance) of Christ, to love a broken world the way He does, and to fulfill our God-given destiny! I am a daughter of the King. I am free. I am unashamed.

If you've ever bought a self-help or spiritual book because you thought it was the answer to 'fix you' (Me!) or if you motivate yourself with one liners such as 'my best is not good enough' (Me!)... These are two of my personal examples of how shame launched for years a full on attack of my personhood, who I am. In this book, Christine Caine differentiates between shame (who I am) and guilt (what I've done). Using her own life stories, she shares the impact of shame from the abuse committed against her and how without disarming it with Truth, her purpose would have never bloomed. It's a motivational and practical read that creeps into your inner thought life and brings hope!

This book will free you! A MUST read!

This book was such a great help and inspiration! I think every woman should read it. She covers the spectrum of guilt and shame and negativity women carry with them that weighs them down from the most severe of women trafficked to being made to feel lesser than for even small things in their life that make them feel unworthy and ashamed. It is a very healing and empowering book. Things hit me the other day that tried to pull me back in that trap of guilt and shame that would have sent me into a deep spiral downward. Having read this I knew better than to swallow those poisonous thoughts and let the Spirit of God pull me out with the truth of who I am in Him!! Please get this!

About the Author
Philomena Essed is Senior Researcher at the University of Amsterdam, Amsterdam Research Institute for Global Issues and Development Studies, and Visiting Professor at the University of California, Irvine. She is the author of Everyday Racism (1990), Understanding Everyday Racism (1991), and Diversity: Gender, Color and Culture (1996).

David Theo Goldberg is Director of the University of California Humanities Research Institute and Professor of African American Studies and Criminology, Law, and Society at the University of California, Irvine. He is the author of Racist Culture: Philosophy and the Politics of Meaning (1993); Racial Subjects: Writing on Race in America (1997); and Ethical Theory and Social Issues (second edition, 1995). An Introduction to Equity Derivatives is the updated and expanded second edition of the popular Finance and Derivatives: Theory and Practice. Designed for new practitioners, investors and students, the content covers all of the fundamentals of quantitative finance clearly and concisely.

Each chapter of the book includes numerous illustrations and exercises accompanied by the relevant financial theory, covering key topics such as present value, arbitrage pricing, portfolio theory, derivatives pricing, delta-hedging and the Black-Scholes model. The chapters form a sequence of gradual difficulty, separated into three sections. About the Author
SÉBASTIEN BOSSU is currently Principal at Ogee Consulting, a startup company based in New York doing cutting-edge research on derivatives, investment management and software development. A former director of Equity Derivatives Structuring for an investment bank in London, he also worked at J.P. Morgan as an exotics structurer. He is a graduate from The University of Chicago, HEC Paris, Columbia University and Université Pierre et Marie Curie.

PHILIPPE HENROTTE is Head of Financial Theory and Research at ITO 33, a company which designs sophisticated derivatives pricing software for hedge funds and financial institutions; and an Affiliate Professor of Finance at HEC Paris. An expert in asset pricing and derivatives hedging, he earned his PhD from Stanford University after graduating from Ecole Polytechnique de Paris.

A great buy

As a a scientist specialised in artificial intelligence, I needed to quickly learn a few things about options for a project. Bossu and Henrotte have presented a well organised, comprehensive guide to derivatives. The book gave me exactly what I needed: the maths, and a clear exposition of key concepts. Parts 1 and 2 are straightforward yet informative, Part 3 is more technical but presents no difficulties for someone who studied Mathematics at University. Finally there are some great insights about vol trading and exotic options at the end. A great buy.

As a professional I can confirm this book is very well-designed and useful. There is just the amount of theory needed for an in-depth understanding of how options are priced and hedged, and the exercises with solutions will help readers put the theory in practice.
