Perhaps not perfect- but pretty close!

The new ediition of McKee's is an outstanding textbook of dermatopathology and the baton has clearly been passed smoothly to Eduardo Calonje in maintaining and improving what was already a good book. The numerous clinical and histological photos are of uniformly good quality and the text is well written. The coverage (particularly of recondite reports from the literature) is perhaps a little less comprehensive than that in Weedon, but in many ways this is more a strength than a weakness, as the book is thus more readable.

The coverage of the subject matter is fairly standard- a pattern based approach to inflammatory conditions and a fairly traditional approach to tumours. The chapters on hair, nail, genital and oral pathology are a useful feature in dealing with these specimens which constitute a less routine area of practice for many of us. I have viewed a few of the short on-line case presentations which are made available with purchase of the book and have particularly enjoyed Dr McKee's methodical style of presentation.

This book is clearly a joy for anyone who takes pleasure in reading beautiful textbooks of dermatopathology. In an age when there are so many good texts available and innumerable journal articles just a mouse click away, there is probably no such thing as a must have textbook- but if there were, this would be it!

A quite fine collection of stories and poems from Minnesota

This is a nice collection of poems, short works of fiction, and short creative nonfiction works by writers from throughout Minnesota. Judges for each category are writers of regional renown. Many of the stories and poems concern things one associates with Minnesota: fishing on Lake Superior, learning to hunt after living for some years in places such as Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., the winter cold, baking fruitcake, deep green forest, working on farms, etc. As is true of almost all collections of such works, some of the contributions are not so great but those that are good (and there are many) are often very great indeed. I particularly liked the story done by Sangita Kalarickal, one of the collection's few contributors who wrote from a non-Minnesota perspective. Her story concerns a woman in India who has learned of her husband's infidelity, wishes to deal with it with help from a questioning mystic, and learns that sometimes you get much more than you may want or deserve. This collection is a worthy addition for any library, in Minnesota or not, and would make a superb holiday gift.

Worth Fighting For by Sondrae Bennett

I have admitted before that novella's are not really something I read a lot, but Sondrae Bennett had opened me up to a whole new world with her Alpine Woods Shifters books. I read the previous three novella's in this series in one weekend and did a mini-review of each of them on my blog.

Cody has been a character we have seen before and I loved him from the first moment we met him. I was itching to get my hands on his story and was so psyched to see that his was up next. Since we have already met him and Misty, we are familiar with them and invested in their lives. The other books focus more on the wolves and we finally get a peek into the lives of the foxes in Worth Fighting For. Cody has grown up with Misty and has always seen her as a one of the guys and his closest friend. He never imagined they could be more than that to each other, but Misty did. She has been fighting for his attention for quite some time and has almost given up hope. It is not until Misty gets hurt in a fight that happened at the end of the previous book that picks back up in this one, that Cody sees how truly important Misty is to him. Once he finally gives into his feelings for her, wow! Those two are hot! Sondrae manages to pack some steamy scenes into these pages.

Even though this is a novella, Sondrae still packs in all the elements I love. I mentioned the smoking hot romance, but there is also plenty of action and an overall villain trying to spoil everyone's plans as well. The villain is one that overlaps a little from the previous book and I liked that Sondrae tied in older plot lines and continues them on in Worth Fighting For.

There is a lot of humor laced throughout as well. The relationship that Cody and Misty share includes witty banter that comes with years of knowing someone. This led to some very cute moments between the two of them and had me laughing out loud numerous times.

Overall, this is another great addition to this series. I love these shifters and Sondrae continues to suck me in with each new story. I cannot pick these books up without reading them cover to cover in one sitting. My only complaint continues to be that I wish they could be longer. And really that is not a complaint at all, just me wanting more, haha. These could easily be turned into full length novels, but I will take whatever I can get. I would highly recommend these books to anyone looking for a good, fast, sexy read. You can read them out of order, but I would start at the beginning with Artic Winds and go forward from there.

When is it time to cut your losses and save your heart?

Book 4 "Arctic Woods" series.

Plot:
Misty has lusted after Cody since they were teens, but he has never seen her as more than a friend. Will there ever be a HEA for them, or is it time to cut her losses and make a new start?

Comments:

- While this is Book 4 of a series, it doesn't technically need the other books to make sense, or they could be read out of order. BUT characters from other books appear and play integral roles, and have influenced the events of Book 4. There is also a fairly loose multi-book story arc started in Book 3 that continues into "Worth Fighting For".
- Prologue has Misty spying on Samantha at Cody's place from Book 1 "Arctic Winds". The book proper starts at Julie's kidnapping from Book 3 "The Wolf Within".
- Includes excerpt from "Omegas In Love" by Annie Nicholas.

Opinion:
"Worth Fighting For" is a surprisingly enjoyable read. It's a good paranormal with funny, clever characters, and a sweet romance with enough light and shade to really feel you got something out of it. I enjoy Bennett's use of different shifter animals, and having their furry halves affect who they are and what they do - in this case, foxes are small, fast animals. When attacked by bigger beasts, they can do little to protect themselves. It's a nice change from the All Powerful Wolves we usually get.

Book 3 was the first book to introduce a multi-book story arc, and it was cleverly included in "Worth Fighting For". It isn't necessary to know the past history, the arc gives the story substance and drama, but knowing the past gives the characters depth, and entices the reader into reading more.

A really fun story in an enjoyable series. Bennett is building a strong series with moreish books, interwoven so we can see our favourites again, loving, explicit sex and fun, easy dialogue. A recommended book.

Book 5 "Covert Desires" - Amber (FBI human) and Danny (Jason's brother and Wolf) - due for release December 2012.

Cute is the word

Another installation in the series. We met Cody in the 1st book I believe, and I kinda wondered if we'd see him again. This book took the angle of 'best friends finally see the light'. Well, on his side. Poor Misty, she's always had feelings. And she's the kinda of 'female' character I like. She's described as feisty/strong willed, but has problems with asthma. And of course her best friend Cody has always been there for her with support about that. Those described moments were totally sweet- got love protective sweet men.

It totally helped to have read the 3rd book. Yes, the book stands alone by itself, but I think having read the previous book helps tie it together. Just saying.

Scent and Psyche brought together in a in-depth presentation

I most sincerely recommend this work to anyone interested in learning more about the magic of Aromas! Not only do the co-athors Peter and Kate Damian discuss the various attributes of many scents, they also tread deep into the inner workings of the human olfactory system. The research they have gathered is worthy of any major medical journal in both content and depth. I personally am involved in various research in the field of the effects of aromas on the human condition and found their book insightful and quite original.
The writting style is simple to follow and filled with those wonderful little phrases that we can carry with us to any social function. I myself have been quoting my favorites parts on quite a regular basis!
Sincerely, if you are interested in Aromatherapy, Incense, Perfume, or even just curious as to how scents have such a powerful response in us as human beings, then I whole heartedly suggest you read this text!

this is a fantastic read

I purchased this book because I am currently taking a course in Aromatherapy, and it was one of the books they recommended. I am truly happy that I did it is very informative and very interesting. Once I started reading it I could not put it down until I finished it. I took it to the gym with me and made sure to read it through my workout. It made my time go by so fast. I know that I will read it again, and will purchase more books written by this Author.
I am sure that anyone would benefit from reading it also.

Not Real Helpful to Me

This book seemed too general for my needs as a psychotherapist or perhaps I've read too many aromatherapy books with rigorous research on the effectiveness (or lack of effectiveness) of essential oils for treating specific mental/emotional conditions.

It looks like an ordinary, soggy blue balloon when the family dog finds it in the garden, but the boy soon finds out that it has "Strange and Wonderful Powers." This balloon is indestructible: it refuses to pop, even when squeezed, squashed and whacked with a stick. It disappears and comes back shaped like a square; it even takes the boy "for a fly" to another planet. Readers will delight in discovering that the book, like the balloon, has some special features: several pages fold out (and/or up), enabling the balloon to grow and stretch into various shapes. Both boy and dog have wonderfully expressive faces as they react to the balloon's extraordinary feats. Inkpen has created an imaginative, beautifully produced book. Ages 3-8.

PreS --This British import offers clean, uncluttered graphics joined with a simple story segmented into one or two sentences per double-page spread. The young child, whose antics readers follow, is reminiscent of an Oxenbury child, and the occasional expanded and unusual fold-out pages will no doubt add to the book's child appeal. The story, however, is slight indeed. The child's dog finds "a soggy blue balloon" that, once inflated, offers a host of unending magical tricks, including an extraterrestrial excursion that thoroughly entertains the child but that will leave readers flat. Although appealing to look at, this book offers little in the way of originality or substance. The Blue Balloon would do best to sail silently back across the sea from whence it came. --J. J. Beautifully illustrated and full of the kinds of visual surprises kids love. What's On (July 1993) Inkpen's pale watercolours against a white background give a cool, calm feel, while the use of pull-out pages and sequences of pictures give an animated feel. Beginner readers will be able to tackle the simple text, but it's a great story to share with all ages. Junior, July 2000

A sweet story for little kids

This is a good book to use for beginning reading to your child. It's simple to read, the pictures are cute, and the fold out surprises make the book engaging for even the youngest readers. My daughter is 6 months old, and enjoys having this book read to her... We always make an event of unfolding the pictures of the balloon as it changes shape and grows, and her eyes widen in delight!

The Blue Balloon

I purchased this book before Kipper became popular. I am a Speech-Language Pathologist and all my clients love the book. It provides for enjoyment even after reading it several times to a child. It's great for language stimulation for verbs, adjectives, locatives, and colors. It has become my favorite book of all time.
