About the Author
Adrian Raeside was born 1957 in Dunedin, New Zealand. At the age of 15 he moved with his parents to England then on to Canada, where he worked at various jobs from loading grain ships in Thunder Bay, to surveying on the West Coast. Editorial cartoonist for the "Victoria Times Colonist" for 32 years, Raeside's editorial cartoons appear in over 200 newspapers and magazines worldwide, from the "Los Angeles Times", to "Newsweek Japan".

In 1988, Raeside began producing animated editorial cartoons for the CBC Journal, going on to create, direct and produce dozens of animated shows for Turner Broadcasting and Children's Television Workshop - adapting Jim Henson Muppet characters for animation.

Raeside is the author of over a dozen books. He lives in Whistler, BC.

Having designed and built automated production machinery at my own company for some years now, I thought I'd get a more formal reference for our next round of die designs which were to be a little more challenging. This book provided no value whatsoever. At first it seemed that the problem might simply be that the writer is not a native English speaker, as is obvious. Further reading showed, however, that the concepts and diagrams really *were* as disorganized and as nearly content-free as they appeared. The editor(s) of the book also seem to have had almost no technical knowledge themselves and so were unaware of the silliness they were trying to shape into semi-readable language. I have physically discarded this book (it is not worth shelf space) and have ordered the Die handbook published by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) of which I'm a senior member. The only reason I didn't get the SME book in the first place was that the lead time was several weeks, while the Suchy book was readily available.

Its a good paper weight

I have been working as a Die Designer for about 2 years and previously studied Tool and Die Technology for 3 years. When I first forked out my hard saved allowance to buy this book, I could not understand it. So I got the Die Design Handbook from SME and several other thinner and easier to understand books. When my understanding of Tool and Die Imporoved, I soon realised that this book is just plain lousy. Its confusing and offers practically no useful information. I would not recommend this book to anybody. There are many other better books that are out there. AMADA, the company that makes press machines also has a very well written book that is good for the student wanting to learn more.

Ripping, I say, what? Absolutely.

The man never ceases to amaze and entertain. I re-read these for undoubtedly the umpteenth time since first cutting my teeth on them at the tender age of thirteen or thereabouts, and I still had a goofy grin on my face throughout interspersed with frequent guffaws, slapped knees and countless chuckles. The English language hasn't seen a finer writer before or since. Must make all the other writers feel like frightful chumps.

Dashed entertaing way to spend the hours....

I came to savor the written works of P. G. Wodehouse and his creation Jeeves with a not completely clean palate, as it were. My views have been informed by large helpings of the TV series "Jeeves & Wooster", and the very distinct characterizations presented so well by Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie respectively.

So it comes as a great pleasure - and a not so small little relief - to find that the source material is even more entertaining. Well worth the read, to the point I'll be purchasing other volumes of these works.

As for the Kindle formatting of this book - there are no problems at all with the version I bought.

All in all, this is highly recommended. And a bargain at the price.

My 9 yr old had to choose an autobiography for a school book report and we randomly chose this one from a level based reading list and Amazon reviews, not knowing anything about Eugine. I don't think we could have picked a better book. The book isn't very long, and is well written so was a quick read, 9yo read it twice the first weekend we had it. We both enjoyed learning about Eugenie's fascination with marine science at a young age and then how she worked hard and followed her dreams make a career out of what she loved to do. I love the short note at the end of the book by Dr. Clark encouraging kids to do what the love, even if it's nothing to do with marine science. Great lesson, great book.

Revisiting a childhood favorite

I loved this book as a child and read through it many many times. I bought for my 9-year-old nephew to read on a trip to the Mote Marine Lab in Florida and he was absolutely absorbed all the way there and most of the way home.
